The Center for Centering partners with Cal Poly San Luis Obispo School of Architecture

Working in collaboration with the School of Architecture at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, we have brought form to vision.  Our Center’s journey begins as an architectural cosmology, by welcoming visitors through a woven entryway, bringing them to a social space enveloped by a dome that invites in a play of light and shadows.  Adjacent to this central social space are options for each visitor to explore. They can journey internally into the inductive room by lying on their backs peacefully gazing into the sky.  They can explore the sensory feeling of sound in the gong room.  They can wander barefoot through a labyrinth that connects them to themselves and to the environment. After pausing in this space of internal and social reflection, they can venture out into the surrounding natural environment.

We are grateful to the students and faculty for translating the ideas and vision shared into a practical, buildable, and beautiful design.  We thank Tom Fowler and Kevin Dong and all of the students for a year of exploration, curiosity, centering.
